Central Highlands Birding & Quetzal Tour
One of Villa Blanca’s most popular seasonal regional tours, the scenic drive to the Azahar Peak, near La Paz de San Ramón, is a beautiful morning sojourn through the Central Highlands. At the summit, you’ll enter a private, family-operated farm where Quetzals nests from mid-February through the end of May. Seasonal tour operates mid-February through May.
One of Villa Blanca’s most popular off property tours, you’ll depart the hotel at in the morning for an approximately 45 minute scenic drive to the Azahar Peak, near La Paz de San Ramón. Continuing on to the summit, you’ll enter a private family-operated farm where the Quetzal nests.
Along a well-maintained trail, you may see the footprints of the wild boars and mountain cats that inhabit this elevation. There is also a variety of high altitude dwelling birds, including the elusive Quetzal that nests between mid-February and the end of May.
Once you see this remarkable bird, you will understand why indigenous populations across the region considered it a mystical creature and how truly fortunate we are that they have been protected in private reserves across this wonderful place, Costa Rica.
